Donation fund for Professor Cordula Poulsen Nautrup Ultrasound laboratory for students

It always was Professor Poulsen Nautrup‘s wish to give all students the chance to learn and practice ultrasound properly under the supervision of competent, specialised veterinarians, without having to pay for it. By founding an ultrasound laboratory for students in 2007/ 2008, on the one hand she enabled students to practice the essential first-day skills necessary for their life as a veterinarian, on the other hand pain and suffering of future animal patients caused by inadequate diagnosing and treatment as a result of a lack of practice can be reduced or even prevented completely. This was the reason why the world’s first ultrasound simulation system is used in the ultrasound laboratory. With this system the use of living animals in veterinary education is reduced, which is in accordance with the German animal welfare act. Furthermore with this device the students skills are fundamentally improved, as they have the possibility to examine “sick” cat model patients, without examining sick living animals.

After the death of Professor Poulsen Nautrup with the help of a sponsor’s initial donation the “Donation fund for the Professor Cordula Poulsen Nautrup Ultrasound laboratory for students” was established. Since April 2018 it is possible to support the ultrasound lab with financial or material resources. With the help of this donation fund the free high-quality ultrasound training for students and the use of the feline ultrasound simulation system should be promoted and continued like Professor Poulsen Nautrup would have done with ongoing commitment.
